Double chin or submental fat, is the accumulation of fat around the chin. Double chin looks very ugly and also makes us look fat, as there is an extra layer of fat formed around your chin. Many people think that double chin is caused due to being overweight, but this is not necessary. You can be skinny and still have a double chin. 

Some of the factors of double chin are-

  • Overweight- This is a common factor, when you gain weight sometimes fat gets accumulated around your chin, causing double chin.
  • Heredity- A reason, which is not under your control. If you have a family history of double chin, then no matter if you are overweight or skinny, you will have double chin.
  • Age- As you grow older, collagen deposits weaken which leads to fat deposition in the neck area.

After understanding the reasons for double chin we need to see how we can get rid of it. Some of the ways to do that are-

Ways to get rid of Double Chin

  1. Tongue Press- It is one simple exercise, which you can perform at any time of the day. Even while traveling to the office or while cooking.

How to perform:

  • Just press your tongue against the roof of your mouth
  • While pressing the tongue, tilt your head back and forth.

2. Say X-O- This exercise is my personal fav. Saying X-O helps to strengthen your jaw muscles and also burn the fat, which results in getting rid of the double chin.

How to perform:

  • You do not have to just normally say X-O.
  • Try to spell them by widening your mouth as much as you can.
  • While saying X, you should feel strain on your jaw muscles
  • And while saying O, try to make a pout.

3. Stick out Tongue- Sticking out your tongue helps to remove toxins from your body, which results in getting rid of double chin.

How to perform:

  • Sit properly and comfortably
  • Stick out your tongue as long as possible
  • While doing so, your eyes will enlarge
  • Hold the position until water comes out of your eyes.

4. Pigeon Face- Another great exercise to reduce the double chin.

How to perform:

  • Hold both sides of your lower jaw
  • Hold them with the help of thumb and index fingers
  • Tilt your head forward
  • You will feel a strain on the muscle of your chin
  • Repeat it 3 times and then relax
  • Hold the position for 5 seconds.

5. Touch your Nose- Double chin is associated with weakness of hyoid muscles. This exercise helps to strengthen those.

How to perform:

  • Stick out our tongue as long as possible
  • Try to touch your nose with the tongue
  • Your lips should be relaxed
  • Repeat it 5 times

6. Kiss the Ceiling- This is very effective exercise, as it stretches the neck area.

How to perform:

  • Sit properly 
  • Now lift your face up and look at the ceiling
  • Try to make a pout as high as you can
  • It is like you are trying to kiss the ceiling
  • Do it properly, you will feel a stretch around your neck
  • Do it 5-8 times and then relax
  • Perform this exercise 5 times.

Home Remedies to get rid of Double Chin

Apart from exercise, some other ways which you can use to get rid of double chin are-

  1. Wheat Germ Oil- Wheat germ oil is a great way to tone your skin and also to give your chin a shape. Filled with vitamin E oil, it is a great antioxidant which helps to reduce the double chin.

How to apply:

  • Take 1-2 tbsp. of wheat germ oil
  • Apply it on your neck and jaw
  • Massage it in the upward direction
  • Leave it overnight.

2. Olive oil- Olive oil is a great choice when it comes to skin health. It is packed with antioxidants, which helps to protect the skin from damage and also tones it.

How to apply:

  • You can either use olive oil for cooking or massage with it.
  • Take 1-2 tbsp. of olive oil
  • Heat it a little bit
  • Massage your neck and jaw with the oil
  • Leave it overnight

3. Vitamin E- Vitamin E oil is highly rich in antioxidants, it keeps your skin away from damage and also moisturizes it.

How to apply:

  • Take 1 -2 vitamin E capsule
  • Prick it and extract the oil from it
  • Apply the oil on your neck and jaw
  • Massage it for a few minutes
  • Leave it overnight.

4. Cocoa butter- A moisturizer which helps to nourish the skin and also increases the skin elasticity. Cocoa butter contains vitamin E, which helps to reduce the double chin.

How to apply:

  • Take 1-2 tbsp. of cocoa butter
  • Heat it a little
  • Massage your neck with the help of warm cocoa butter
  • Either leave it overnight or wash it off after 30 mins.
